The key to a successful Schengen visa application is a meticulously prepared document file. Any missing or incorrect item can lead to a delay or, worse, a refusal. This comprehensive checklist provides a detailed overview of every document you will need, ensuring you are fully prepared for your application.
Valid Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area and have at least two blank pages.
Schengen Visa Application Form: This must be completed accurately and signed. Some consulates require it to be filled out online, while others accept a paper version.
Passport Photos: Two recent passport-size photos that meet specific Schengen photo requirements (light background, no glasses, etc.).
Travel Itinerary: Provide a confirmed round-trip flight reservation and detailed proof of accommodation (hotel bookings, a signed invitation letter from a host, or a lease agreement).
Proof of Financial Means: Show that you have enough money to support your trip and return. This can be demonstrated with recent bank statements (from the last three to six months), salary slips, or a letter of sponsorship.
Travel Medical Insurance: A mandatory requirement. Your insurance policy must cover a minimum of €30,000 for medical emergencies, including hospitalization and repatriation, and be valid for the entire duration of your stay.
Proof of Employment or Study: A letter from your employer or university confirming your status and authorized leave. For the self-employed, proof of business registration and income is required.
Cover Letter: This is a crucial document where you explain the purpose of your trip, your detailed itinerary, and provide evidence of your strong ties to your home country.
Proof of Civil Status: Documents like a marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, etc., can be required to demonstrate family ties.
